Planning & Advisory Groups

The California Digital Library was founded as a collaboration of the University of California campuses and, by nature, creates and manages shared resources. Successful collaboration depends upon advisory and operations groups whose memberships include faculty, administrators, and staff from all UC campuses.

Systemwide Library Planning

The planning and advisory processes which guide the CDL are well integrated with Systemwide Library Planning (SLP), which is directed by the CDL University Librarian and Executive Director. The CDL often implements the plans created by the SLP. The SLP collectively works through representative groups for the UC libraries and their constituencies. CDL Advisory and Working Groups

The following groups directly advise the CDL in specific domains.

CDL steering and working groups:

• Digital Library Services Advisory Group: This group is charged with exploring the benefits that can be gained through sharing services and collections, leveraging technology, and pooling financial resources among the UC libraries.
• Joint Steering Committee on Shared Collections (JSC): This group is responsible for identifying appropriate mechanisms for the systemwide development of digital collection frameworks and priorities. Its members come from the UC campus libraries.
• Online Archive of California Working Group (OACWG): The OACWG advises the CDL and the OAC Steering Committee on issues concerning the administration, operation, and technical development of the OAC. Its members are nominated by the CDL.

CDL operations:

• Users Council: The Users Council is responsible for basic communication about public services and the use of the CDL. Its members include representatives from major user groups and catalog contributors, including those outside the UC system.
• Resource Liaisons: These liaisons are campus subject experts who monitor and conduct ongoing evaluation of shared resources. Members include bibliographers and reference librarians.
• eScholarship Liaisons: The eScholarship liaisons represent local eScholarship efforts on the campus and assist faculty who are interested in submitting their work to the eScholarship Repository with training and technical issues.
