Infrastructure and Applications SupportManager: John Ober The Infrastructure and Applications Support Group manages CDL's many computers, network connections, operating systems, and security software – the digital infrastructure that keeps the library services up and running. With library databases and several major service products – including the Melvyl® Catalog, Calisphere, Mark Twain Project Online, and the Online Archive of California — online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, this is a never-ending task. The group provides support at all points on the path: from development, to testing, to the release and maintenance of a new service. This support entails researching and purchasing the best hardware and software solutions on the market, monitoring network connections and security threats, and working with CDL program staff to adapt software for specific needs. Along the way, the group will also create a safe place for testing; ensure that a system can be available to users at any time of day or night; and coordinate with two data centers, partnering to resolve any technical issues that arise.
